Common reasons include poor customer service, dislike of their web or mobile app, lack of local branches and ATMs, or you may have too many accounts to manage. Of course there are many other perfectly valid reasons for wanting to close a bank account other than fees.

Some people are closing their Chase accounts and switching to banks that do not have minimum balance requirements on savings and checking accounts. This means that if you were to frequently keep a very small balance in your bank account each month, you could end up paying as much as $300 by the end of each year. If you have “Chase Savings” the fee is $5 and the fee is $12 with the “Chase Total Checking” account. If you have a “Premier Savings”, “Premier Plus Checking”, or “Sapphire Checking” account, this fee is $25 per month. If you fail to maintain this minimum balance or meet other requirements, the bank will charge you a monthly fee. Chase requires that you maintain a minimum balance if you have a savings or checking account with them.
